OxNet students experienced life at a Russell Group University by attending a two-day residential at Durham University as part of the OxNet programme, focusing around three key elements of Bishop Grosseteste’s treatises – colour, light, and cosmos.
OxNet North East: The History Of History. The most recent OxNet session, led by historian Giles Gasper questioned what ‘History’ actually is, and more specifically how we really know things happened in the past.
OxNet North East: Modern Creativity. The most recent OxNet session, led by artist Colin Rennie, focused around creativity, and what this actually means.
Seminar 4 of the OxNet series was focused around Translation and Philosophy. Students prepared for the session by completing reading on medieval translators and works that were translated from Arabic into Latin.
The third session in the OxNet Seminar Series was run by Joshua Harvey of Oxford University and took an interdisciplinary look into colour, covering areas like psychology, mathematics and even some philosophy.
The students came away from the second seminar not only with a broad understanding of physics, but also how studying history can inform future discoveries.
