Comparative Cosmologies: Robert Grosseteste and Modern Cosmology

Richard Bower giving a public lecture as part of the Ordered Universe symposium ‘Knowing and Speaking: On the Generation of Sounds and On the Liberal Arts‘  held at Bishop Grosseteste University, 8-10th April, 2015. The lecture was delivers in the Chapter House of Lincoln Cathedral on the evening of the 9th April. Richard takes the audience on a guided tour of the modern universe, the EAGLE project to model galaxies, dark matter and dark energy, and comparison to Grosseteste’s treatment of the universe in the treatise on Light. The challenges and delights of comparison, of modern theories of space and time, and the conceptual frameworks of historical figures, are all addressed.
