Singing for the Lincolnite

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA20140719_153207Grosseteste speaks in the De artibus liberalibus – On the Liberal Arts of the healing power of music, as part of a psychological study on proportion, harmony and the exercise of will and passion. As part of the workshop in Lincoln (hosted at and by Bishop Grosseteste University) next week, the newly formed ‘Cantus [In]firmus’ will be making a short musical offering in honour of the Lincolnite, whose appreciation for, and love of, music can be shown from his earliest works to the end of his days.Continue reading “Singing for the Lincolnite”

Comparative Cosmologies: Robert Grosseteste and Modern Cosmology

IMG_1325DSC_0624Professor Richard Bower, stalwart of the Ordered Universe project, and a senior member of the Durham Institute of Computational Cosmology, will be delivering a public lecture in the Chapter House, Lincoln Cathedral, at 6.30 pm, on April 9th. Cheltenham Science Festival 2015: Ordered Universe presents…

Cheltenham FestivalsCMYK PortraitIt is a real thrill to let you know that the Ordered Universe project was successful in an AHRC open call for the opportunity to present and curate an event at the Cheltenham Science and Literature Festivals. Following an ‘elevator pitch’ and workshop in Swindon, the Ordered Universe was selected to work with the Science Festival team. So, Tom, Hannah and Giles will be doing just this over the next few months! DSC_0621The Ordered Universe has a guest blog on the AHRC Science in Culture website, on the Being Human Festival, with more reflection on the experience of presenting Grosseteste and his wonderful imagination in a public forum. The Being Human Festival is running again next year: a terrific initiative, and an exciting way to present the wealth of ideas and projects dealing with the humanities. Ordered Universe will have its next public talk in Lincoln Cathedral Chapter-House: Thursday April 9th, 6.30 p.m. given by Richard Bower.
