Light, Rainbows, and the Medieval Big Bang

The Light Up Poole Festival 2020 opened yesterday and the Ordered Universe Project is delighted to support it, as we did last year to the 40,000 or so visitors who came along. This year Giles Gasper is giving a public talk, tomorrow, Saturday 22nd, at 18.00 in the Lighthouse, Function Rooms 1-2 on:

Light, Rainbows, and the Medieval Big Bang

Tickets are available, and the talk will take a tour of the scientific world of Robert Grosseteste, and his thought on light in particular. Light Up Poole 2020 takes as its theme Spectrum, something that our research into this remarkable thinker moves around frequently. From colour to rainbows, and the cosmos to the human body, Grosseteste’s range of interest in his scientific works is broad, deep, and creative. It is a great privilege to be involved in the festival, and thanks should be extended here to Ross Ashton and Karen Monid of the Projection Studio for facilitating this, and to Libby Bataglia, the festival director. If you are around in Poole for the weekend do come and find us – and of course enjoy the wonderful installations and full programme of events.

Meanwhile a trip down memory lane – Brian Tanner and Giles Gasper talking at last year’s festival, supporting a projection of Horizon, another collaborative sound and light show with Ross and Karen at the Projection Studio.
