The Scientific Study of Manuscripts

Brian Tanner and Giles Gasper will be presenting the Ordered Universe and its collaborative methodology at a workshop tomorrow organised by the Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Durham University. The workshop, on ‘The Scientific Study of Manuscripts’ will present various perspectives and projects running at Durham, including The Pigments of British Illustrators project, the Rescribe OCR project Nina Mirnig and Robin Coningham on their research on early medieval Kathmandu, and the Durham Priory Library Recreated project. Brian and Giles will be exploring what happens when the Ordered Universe team collaborate, how we work through scientific texts from the Middle Ages together, and how the collaboration between sciences and humanities in particular, comes together in a broader and deeper interpretation of the manuscript contents. Theory, practice, sharing of experience – what could be better for a Tuesday in February!
